The Civil Police of São José do Rio Preto launched, this Tuesday (18), Operation Cannabussiness, aimed at combating the illegal trade of cannabis derivatives, such as hashish, in the region. Eleven search and seizure warrants were served, and 25 inspections were carried out on plantations. The action also resulted in the freezing of assets and financial funds belonging to the suspects, in addition to the confiscation of properties used for drug trafficking.

The suspects will face charges of drug trafficking, conspiracy to traffic, and money laundering. The Civil Police emphasizes that patients who used cannabis-derived inputs for medical treatment, without involvement in illicit activities, were not targeted by the operation, which is supported by an ordinance and technical opinions from the responsible Delegacia Seccional, as well as a technical note from Anvisa.
