The Fraud Behind Cannabis Products on Amazon

In the digital world, purchasing cannabis products can become a murky and frustrating experience. The apparent accessibility offered by Amazon for "hemp" products may actually disguise fake dosages, lack of transparency, and products that do not match their descriptions.

Amid the ever-evolving landscape of cannabis and its derivatives legislation, the sale of these products on the platform has become a gray area. Although the platform officially does not allow the sale of CBD products, suppliers have found ways to circumvent these restrictions by using terms like "hemp" to deceive consumers.

CBD Oracle, a company dedicated to consumer research, conducted a revealing investigation into the situation. By analyzing 56 of the most popular hemp products on Amazon, it was found that most of them did not contain the advertised amount of CBD, and some did not even contain any cannabis-derived compounds. Additionally, 96% of the products did not provide accurate dosages on their labels. “The lack of proper regulation and oversight allows this fraud to thrive,” the company stated in a note.

Now the online retail company, along with other e-commerce platforms, needs to take stricter measures to verify the legitimacy of listed products and ensure consumer safety.

Experts emphasize the need for Certificates of Analysis (COA) and clearer guidelines for sellers. In the meantime, consumers should be vigilant and seek out trustworthy brands, even if it means stepping away from the convenience of Amazon.
