The Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) will host, on October 28, 2026, the 1st International Symposium on Medical Cannabis, Science, and Regulation. The event will bring together researchers, specialists, and civil society representatives to discuss research applied to health, therapeutic advancements, and the regulatory landscape of cannabis in Brazil.
The program will also mark the official launch of the Center for Studies and Innovation in Phytopharmaceuticals of Mato Grosso (CEIFMT), an initiative dedicated to multidisciplinary research involving cannabis and phytopharmaceuticals.
Scientific Research on Cannabis
CEIFMT's areas of focus will include research related to genetics and cultivar development, phytochemistry, pharmacology, green chemistry, and neurochemistry. The center also plans studies in the fields of regulatory law and clinical medical practice.
The launch takes place during the symposium, which will feature a schedule dedicated to discussing research applied to health and the current stage of investigations carried out by UFMT.
Symposium Schedule
Among the planned activities is the round table "Cannabis: Research Applied to Health," scheduled to take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The discussion will address the application of plant research to health and the clinical challenges related to the subject.
The program will conclude, starting at 5:00 PM, with the panel "Presentation of CEIFMT: The Current State of Scientific Research at UFMT." The session will present the projects developed by the center and the prospects for research conducted by the university.
