Starting on Tuesday (15), pharmacies registered in the cannabis distribution network in Uruguay began selling a new variety of cannabis with higher tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content. Named Epsilon, this sativa-dominant hybrid variety has a THC content of 20% or less and CBD content of 1% or less. The 5-gram package will be sold for $570.
The batches released in the first weeks are limited, constituting a pre-launch of the variety, which will be gradually incorporated into the market.
Product Characteristics
According to the Institute for the Regulation and Control of Cannabis (IRCCA), which registered the product with the Ministry of Public Health, all production processes of Epsilon follow strict quality and traceability controls.
Before being released to the market, each batch undergoes laboratory analysis to verify compliance with microbiological standards (such as absence of pathogens) and physicochemical standards (such as levels of heavy metals and pesticides).
Varieties Available in the Market
Epsilon is the variety with the highest market value, sold for $570. In addition to it, three other varieties are also available:
Alpha ($430 to $450): THC content of 9% or less and CBD content of 3% or less;
Beta ($450 to $470): THC content of 9% or less and CBD content of 3% or less;
Gamma ($500 to $520): THC content of 15% or less and CBD content of 1% or less.
