Veterinarian with autism and ADHD transforms her life after treatment with medicinal cannabis

Quality of Life

Carolina Lomovtov, who has autism level two and ADHD, received incorrect diagnoses during childhood and adolescence, consulted with several doctors and psychologists, had hospitalizations, and used various occasional medications. According to her, the allopathic medications were more of a hindrance and caused side effects than they helped in treating her conditions.

Approximately three years ago, a veterinarian in São Paulo started using cannabis-based medications, a product that changed her life. In her treatment, Carolina uses a Full Spectrum oil and a product made with nanotechnology, containing cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and melatonin. Now, she is preparing to include THC-containing gummies in her routine.

"It was common for me to feel unwell either from not being able to eat or from overeating. There was a time when, due to appetite spikes, I weighed 149 kilograms. My binge eating has improved a lot," comments the veterinarian.

In addition to gradually reducing the use of allopathic anxiolytics and antidepressants, she began the weaning phase of Rivotril. This change was decided after Carolina was able to better manage the symptoms. Diagnosed with autism at 25, the patient says she can better manage her anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and understand the feelings and desires of others. "I organized everything by size or alphabetically. Not having things my way made me feel bad, angry. Today I am calmer."

Complications before cannabis therapy

Due to the difficulty of obtaining an autism diagnosis - especially among women - Carolina was initially diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety disorder during her youth. The misdiagnosis, combined with the search for treatment results, led her to use 11 different medications by the age of 20.

"I started with a medication for depression, but the medication caused anxiety. So, I took another medicine, which in turn induced sleep. The sleep inducer made me hungry... and almost without realizing it, I was already taking 11 different medications," recounts Carolina.

Additionally, at least once a year, the patient would experience periods of up to a week without sleep. Before cannabis, these crises were more frequent, and to combat insomnia, several medications with serious side effects were necessary. "40 milligrams of zolpidem, 46 drops of 2-milligram Rivotril and a half... That's the only way I can sleep," she explains, mentioning the memory and liver function problems that developed due to the combination of medications.

Now, an advocate for the medicinal use of cannabis, Lomovtov has about 90% of her schedule as a veterinarian dedicated to treatments with the plant. Additionally, she teaches courses and publishes informative content about cannabis on social media.
