A video that has gone viral on social media has sparked intense debate about the limits and responsibilities regarding the inhaled use of the Cannabis sativa plant and physical activity. In the footage, practitioners of the sport are seen performing their exercises while smoking marijuana cigarettes, raising concerns about health and safety risks.
Dr. Natalia Candiago warns that this practice can result in serious consequences. She emphasizes that marijuana cigarettes are rich in THC and not in Cannabidiol. "Even if it were a product rich in Cannabidiol, it would still have a percentage of THC as Full Spectrum - since no plant provides the isolated product," she clarifies.
She explains that THC, a substance present in marijuana, has hypotensive properties, meaning it can lower blood pressure. This effect, combined with the natural tendency of physical exercise to reduce pressure, can lead to dizziness and even fainting during activity, increasing the risk of accidents with gym equipment.
"Inhaling marijuana during exercise can cause even more fatigue, with panting due to smoke contact with the lungs. This combination is not recommended, as it can compromise the practitioner's health," warns Dr. Candiago.
In addition to the physical risks, the doctor points out that the practice can also affect performance during the workout, as the fatigue caused by marijuana can hinder the correct execution of exercises.
