The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) granted, with publication in the official diary, the first authorization under RDC 327/19 for a natural plant extract of cannabis sativa with CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), without any psychoactive effect, various therapeutic indications, and permission for commercialization in Brazilian pharmacies.

The product was registered by the Brazilian company Zion Med Pharma and is being imported from Switzerland, where the highest standards of manufacturing and quality are practiced.

The extract contains, in its formula, a complete extraction of 200 mg/ml of phyto compounds and cannabinoids CBD (Cannabidiol at 50mg/ml), THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol with less than 2 mg/ml) among others such as terpenes and flavonoids, which gives rise to the name of the extraction and the designation “Full Spectrum” of this product.

Clinical studies show that Full Spectrum CBD plant extracts have an efficacy up to 3 times greater than Isolated CBD products because they more intensely and completely stimulate the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in the body known as the “Entourage Effect.”

In addition to the well-documented use in the treatment of refractory epilepsy cases, CBD has shown promising results in treating conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, dementia, and autism, among others.

The product, which comes in a 10 ml bottle, will start being distributed at the end of May to pharmacies in the entire Southeast region of Brazil with a suggested retail price of R$379.

“Telemedicine is part of our strategy for practical access to digital medical prescriptions, providing access to our products with an agile online purchasing process and fast delivery with maximum convenience, to improve the quality of life of our patients,” adds Fischer, noting that it is still necessary to overcome some regulatory barriers to implement the digitization of this business model under RDC 327/19.

The company is currently seeking and analyzing potential partnerships for conducting clinical studies of other therapeutic indications for registration as a medicine with Anvisa.

“We have already started developing new cannabinoid formulations to expand our portfolio with even more competitive prices,” concludes Fischer, believing in strong growth and consolidation of the Medical Cannabis category, not only abroad but also in Brazil.
