Forum at UEM discusses the future of medical cannabis in Paraná
Free event discusses advances in legislation, public policies, and access to treatments
The State University of Maringá (UEM) hosts, on October 9 and 10, the 4th Paraná Cannabis Forum and the 1st Symposium of the institution. The events aim to discuss, demystify, and promote the benefits of medical cannabis. The discussions will take place at the UEM Central Library.
The agenda will include advances in cannabis regulation in Brazil and Paraná, as well as public policies to ensure democratic access to therapy. The event will also address the right to health, care, and medical and legal support for patients using the plant for therapeutic purposes.
The forum and symposium are free of charge and offer a participation certificate. The target audience includes researchers, healthcare professionals, students, parliamentarians, patient associations, and other stakeholders in the sector.
One of the highlights of the debate is the recent legislation in Paraná that included medical cannabis in the Unified Health System (SUS). The measure streamlines access to cannabinoid-based medications, providing free treatment to patients with serious illnesses.
The event is organized by the mandate of State Deputy Goura Nataraj, author of the Pétala Law, sanctioned in 2023. The initiative is supported by UEM, other universities such as UEL and UFPR, and sponsored by sector companies like Taima Essential.
