Lawyer Juliana Sousa explained how preventive legal planning in Customs and Criminal Law is crucial for companies to import and export cannabis-based products without issues and with more security.
According to Juliana, Customs Law acts as a strategic tool for companies to comply with legal requirements, avoiding risks of seizures and penalties. "The work begins with mapping out strategies, identifying how the company should comply and what type of information needs to be provided," explained Juliana.
She emphasized that the sector heavily relies on imports, making it essential for logistical operations to align with current regulations, such as Decree 6,579 (Customs Regulations) and specific normative instructions, like IN no. 737, which deals with the import and export of controlled products.
"It's a comprehensive work that ensures the entire process is within regulations and that the company can streamline its customs clearance time," she pointed out.

When asked about the relationship between Criminal and Customs Law, Juliana explained that they go hand in hand. "By complying with all the prescribed measures, we reduce the chances of any infractions during the process by up to 90%," she stated.
