According to the expert, who spoke at the 4th Brazilian Medicinal Cannabis Congress, science plays a fundamental role in validating new approaches. “We still need more research, right? Bringing this possibility of using cannabis as a treatment also for pain, for osteoarthritis pain,” she stated.

Griebler emphasizes that the path to more defined protocols goes through clinical practice and continuous investigation. “We also need more studies, more research, more clinical use as well, to reach dosages, concentrations that are more regulated,” she explained.

Currently, cannabis treatment in animals is completely personalized, starting with low doses that are adjusted according to each patient's response. This individualized methodology is necessary until science establishes clearer standards for each condition.

“What we can more or less understand what would be ideal for this pathology, for this type of patient. Today we treat the patient individually", the expert added. The approach is similar to that practiced in human medicine.

“We use, then, in a way to start slower, with lower doses, and we increase, increasing this dosage according to the patient's response,” Griebler detailed. She adds that, as these are complex diseases, cannabis often integrates a broader therapeutic plan, often alongside other drugs.

Congress boosts knowledge about cannabis in Veterinary Medicine

Events like the 4th Brazilian Medicinal Cannabis Congress are crucial for the safe and effective advancement of the field. For Neide Griebler, the exchange of science-based information strengthens the clinical practice of veterinarians.

“The Congress brings a great opportunity for updating for veterinarians in general,” highlighted the speaker. According to her, the event brings together specialists and researchers who share their experiences and the latest scientific findings.

“We can have this space for knowledge exchange, conversation, and thus have a richer means of knowledge,” concluded the veterinarian.
