The municipality of Irani, in Santa Catarina, will host the Regional Seminar on Intellectual Disability and Autism next Wednesday (19). The event will address vital topics for the population of Santa Catarina, such as the use of medical cannabis, school inclusion, and the integrated work of multidisciplinary teams.

The program will feature renowned specialists. The discussion will include the participation of Deputy Padre Pedro Baldissera (PT) and biomedical scientist Brunna Varela, a medical cannabis specialist. Also present will be neuropsychopedagogue Michelli Sabatini and occupational therapist Fernando Calil.

Structure and institutional support

Held at the Multiuse Center, the Regional Seminar on Intellectual Disability and Autism is open to all interested parties. The event is part of the discussion calendar promoted by Padre Pedro and is supported by the Legislative School of Alesc, Apae of Irani, as well as the City Hall and Municipal Department of Education.

According to Padre Pedro, the objective is to unite health and education. "We will integrate the discussion of access to medical cannabis use with the issues of care for people with disabilities by Apaes and schools," explained the deputy in a statement from Alesc.

The first part of the Regional Seminar on Intellectual Disability and Autism will focus on access to health treatments. The discussion will address ways to enforce the law that requires the free distribution of medical cannabis by the Unified Health System (SUS) in Santa Catarina.

The legislation was proposed, among other parliamentarians, by Deputy Padre Pedro. The focus is to ensure that this medication effectively reaches the residents of Santa Catarina who need it, enhancing the quality of life of the patients.

Pedagogical practices and inclusion

Subsequently, the Regional Seminar on Intellectual Disability and Autism will address inclusive skills and practices. The aim is to discuss pedagogical adaptations to enhance care in Apaes and specialized education.

Adriano De Martini, event coordinator, emphasizes the importance of training. "We want to address this perspective of inclusion and pedagogical practices so that they can be improved in school units, in Apaes," he states.

De Martini also highlights the curricular benefit for the attendees. "We have sought the participation of people so that they can have a day of knowledge [...] and then implement these practices in their entities or schools. Attendees will receive a certificate that they can later include in their resumes," he concludes.
