<strong>“Establishing differences between hemp and cannabis is arbitrary,” says Lorenzo Rolim</strong>
In a live session, the president of the Latin American Industrial Hemp Association (LAIHA) states that the pre-defined limit of 0.3% THC does not mean that hemp is not cannabis.

Last Tuesday (18), the Super Live Sechat featured Lorenzo Rolim da Silva and Rafael Arcuri, experts in the industrial uses of cannabis.
Rolim, president of the Latin American Industrial Hemp Association (LAIHA) and director of communication and engagement at the Federation of International Hemp Organizations (FIHO), emphasized when asked about the difference between hemp and cannabis that the two are basically the same plant.
“Cannabis is the species, hemp is cannabis. In the first definition that emerged in the world, it was merely about the purpose for which the products of this plant would be intended, that is, if it was for industrial use, it was hemp. For medicinal or adult use, it was cannabis,” he explains, adding:
“In a second review, the issue of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content came up. Below 0.3% by dry weight is hemp, above that, it is cannabis. However, this is an arbitrary differentiation, as no one knows for sure where this limit came from,” Rolim revealed.

Both Lorenzo and Rafael Arcuri will participate in panels related to agribusiness at the Brazilian Congress on Medicinal Cannabis on May 4 and 5 at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo.
“Last year the event was very good, many institutional relationships emerged there, and the expectations for this year are the best possible. The proposals that arise there have real chances of being realized,” emphasized Rafael Arcuri, lawyer and Executive Director of the National Industrial Hemp Association (ANC).
