Santa Catarina continues to advance in the development of a pioneering public policy for access to medicinal Cannabis. Deputy Paulinha (Podemos-SC), author of the law that guarantees free distribution by the Unified Health System (SUS), announces the launch of the Santa Catarina Medicinal Cannabis Guide.

The guide was developed to guide doctors, healthcare professionals, public managers, and mayors. The material addresses the scientific, legal, and clinical foundations of medicinal Cannabis use.

The event will be held virtually this Thursday, October 30, at 4 pm. The technical presentation will be conducted by Dr. Alexandre Buffon, vice president of Unimed Grande Florianópolis.

Participation in the launch is free, with mandatory registration (click here and fill out the form). Registered participants will receive the guide firsthand and a certificate of participation in the virtual training.

Guidance as the basis for prescription

According to the Santa Cannabis Association, one of the entities involved in the guide's development, the guide is free, easily accessible, and provides a safe understanding for doctors to start their prescriptions without fear. The initiative aims to address one of the current main bottlenecks: prescriptions through the public network.

The material provides clear information on therapeutic indications, safety, prescription protocols, and guidelines for implementation in the SUS. The goal is to provide legal certainty and technical support for professionals to work with confidence, autonomy, and responsibility.

“Santa Catarina currently has the best law in Brazil for access to Cannabis through the SUS. Now is the time to train our professionals so that no patient is left without treatment due to lack of information,” says Deputy Paulinha.

Initiative brings together parliament, science, and society

The content was developed based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence, providing support to frontline healthcare professionals.

According to Pedro Sabaciauskis, president of Santa Cannabis, access begins in primary care. “We need to support the doctor on the front line so that they can prescribe safely and not out of fear.”

The initiative is promoted by the Santa Catarina State Legislative Assembly (Alesc), Deputy Paulinha, Pedro Sabaciauskis, and the Santa Cannabis team. Also participating are Dr. Alexandre Buffon and the Cannabinoides company, bringing together the forces of parliament, science, and organized civil society.
