The Neuroscience Laboratory of the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), has opened registrations for a study on the use of psychedelics in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression. The research is seeking volunteers diagnosed with the disorder who have not improved with conventional medications.

The clinical trial is free and voluntary, lasting six weeks, and will be conducted between October 2025 and July 2026. According to the announcement posted on the laboratory's Instagram, the goal is to "help advance science" by offering a safe and controlled alternative to understand the therapeutic effects of these substances.

Those interested in participating must reside in Foz do Iguaçu or the surrounding region and meet the clinical criteria defined by the research team. Registrations are open through a form available on the official Instagram profile bio link.

Psychedelics and mental health

In recent years, psychedelic substances such as psilocybin, found in mushroom species, and ayahuasca, traditionally used in ritual contexts, have gained prominence in studies on the treatment of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

International research indicates that when administered in a clinical setting with specialized supervision, these substances can promote lasting positive effects on mood regulation and emotional well-being.
