The substance analysis service Energy Control in Spain has identified ecstasy pills with MDMA doses well above normal, some exceeding 360 mg per unit.

For comparison, the European Drug Agency considers any pill containing more than 150 mg of the substance to be high potency.

These numbers, according to the investigation by the Cañamo portal, are not only remarkable for their value, but for what they represent: a real risk for those who consume without knowing what they are taking. The same analysis showed that in 2023, there were already records of pills with 371 mg of MDMA, signaling a worrying trend in the increasing concentration of these substances.

High potency, increased risks

With such high doses, the adverse effects also become more severe. Among the main risks are anxiety attacks, extreme elevation of body temperature, cardiac complications, and even serotonin syndrome, a serious condition caused by excess serotonin in the brain.

In addition to potency, there is another factor that worsens the scenario: the variation between batches and the presence of counterfeit pills, often with other synthetic substances.

This uncertainty makes consumption even more dangerous, as users rarely have reliable information about what they are ingesting.

The way to reduce harm involves information, testing, and education, not fear or repression. Experts emphasize that public policies focused on harm reduction, combined with awareness campaigns and access to reliable laboratory analysis, are essential to prevent tragedies and promote care.
