The Justice of Rio Grande do Norte authorized the Reconstruir association to cultivate cannabis for medicinal purposes, after a nine-year legal battle. The historic decision recognizes the association's right to produce cannabis oil to treat serious illnesses, benefiting over 700 families in the state. The measure also sets a legal precedent for other similar initiatives in the country.

The association has been in a nearly decade-long legal battle to receive authorization for the planting and cultivation of medicinal cannabis to serve its patients. The decision by the State Court of Justice represents a milestone in the fight for access to alternative and effective treatments for serious illnesses.

Currently, they serve over 700 families, offering locally produced products sold at cost price.

A legal precedent for the country

The judicial decision not only benefits the association but also sets an important legal precedent for other similar initiatives in Brazil, such as the case of the association in Mato Grosso do Sul, which also recently obtained a safe conduct for cultivation of the plant.

By recognizing the right of civil associations to cultivate cannabis for medicinal purposes, the Justice of RN paves the way for a broader discussion on the regulation of the therapeutic use of the plant in the country.
